The death of King Charles XII in 1718 – Experimental examination of the cause of death.
Juho-Antti Junno is a bioarchaeologist who has conducted research on experimental forensic medicine. This has involved the development of new innovative research techniques to study terminal ballistics. At some point he wanted to test new techniques on archaeological/historical "cases". The death of Charles XII of Sweden seemed like an interesting case as there was no general agreement about the course of events. Was he assassinated or was he killed by random enemy fire?
Dr. Juho-Antti Junno is a Finnish Associate Professor at the University of Oulu. He is the visiting Chair in Finnish Studies at Lakehead University for the Winter 2026 semester.
