Poppy Beading Workshop & Exhibit Info Session (Free Event)
Come bead your own poppy with guidance from its creator, local artist and beader Corrina McKay! Or, simply drop in to learn more about the upcoming travelling exhibit:
Anishnaabe Zhiimaagnishii Inaadiziwin - Life of Indigenous Soldiers - Vie des Soldats Autochtones
The stories of Indigenous Veterans - First Nations, Métis, and Inuit - across Turtle Island are often not fully acknowledged and many have gone untold for decades. This project seeks to change that by facilitating the creation of an ever evolving and growing travelling exhibit that celebrates the stories and lives of Indigenous Veterans in Northwestern Ontario. This exhibit will allow for these important stories and lived experiences to be documented and shared in the spirit of openness, reconciliation, and education.
This is a welcoming, drop-in event open to all, with no beading experience needed, and all materials are provided free of charge! Advance registration is encouraged but not required.
Whether you stay for the full workshop or just to stop by for information, everyone is welcome!
This project is generously supported through the Department of Canadian Heritage (Museums Assistance Program) and the Future Generations Foundation.
